Day One (Posted on Day Two)
So my adventure begins. After lots of flying, baggage discrepancies, and language barriers, here I am sitting outside the Friedrichshafen youth hostel drinking a massive bottle of sparkling water. My traveling buddy is Joanna Elliott, a lovely lady. We shared quite a few giggle fits on the planes, especially when it felt like 2:50 am when we arrived in Munich (local time 8:50am). For the most part our flights went smoothly, and we arrived in Friedrichshafen 15 minutes early. We got to the youth hostel another 15 minutes later, and found out that they have room for us tomorrow night as well! Many of you were aware of our accommodation issue, as Joanna and I originally didn’t have anywhere to stay our second night before school starts. But God always provides, and the youth hostel has room for us.
We were placed in a room with Tiffany, another girl attending Bodenseehof. We spent the late afternoon and evening together, walking to town, eating a great meal at the Cafe im Rathaus. I recommend it for great food at good prices, so if you’re ever in Friedrichshafen for some strange reason, look it up. Free wifi as well :) which is how I am posting this. Anywho, we had a great evening just getting to know each other, watching some random theatre group perform some dance acts on the stairs beside us, and listening to the bells ring in the church behind us in the square.
One up lifting and slightly funny thing today. When I was sitting in the Munich airport waiting to get on my second flight (out of three total) to Cologne Bonn, I was just feeling worn down and tired. I caught a man watching and smiling at me as he walked past, and when I looked back at him a second time, he gave me a huge grin and a thumbs up. I couldn’t help but smile and laugh, and I realized my face had been frozen in a frown for the last twenty minutes. Just brightened my day. And he brightened my day even more when I saw him in line for a flight to Amsterdam and I realized his hair had been dyed to resemble the print of a leopard. Apparently I missed that first time around.
That was most of my day. And I am very tired, but hopefully tonight I’ll catch up on the sleep I missed during my flights, and I’ll adjust quickly to the time change. Tomorrow we’re going to explore the pier and book stores, and sit by the fountain in the square where we were earlier this evening. We found a fantastic “you-can-buy-practically-everything-here” store, and lo and behold I found Twinings Earl Grey tea bags. Life has been made. By the way Mom, thanks for the tea bags for the flight. Haven’t used them yet because their cups are just not big enough to deserve a properly steeped cup of tea.
Ciao,
and much love,
Mickeelie
